Dear friends, we are back, ready to resume in the new year our festival info service. And to begin with, here is a new batch of confirmed bands! From the local scene and genre-wise diverse, containing both classic and alternative acts.

So, get ready for:

FORGOTTEN SILENCE (cz)

Although the avant-garde/experimental metal is a rather small niche on the Czech scene, it does contain bands of long standing. Among the oldest pioneers of Czech alternative metal is undisputedly the Brno-based act FORGOTTEN SILENCE, which was established in 1993 as a side project of members of Sax and Remembrance. Since then, the band has changed its line-up multiple times, assembled a noteworthy discography of some 20 titles (counting in all the full-lengths and their reeditions, split albums, EPs and demos), played a myriad of live shows, and continually developed their singular style that ranges from death and thrash, over rock, progressive and psychedelic, to ambient or even pop. We already had the pleasure of welcoming FORGOTTEN SILENCE once before to MGCDF, in 2014, which, band history-wise, was two years after the release of their full-length “La Grande Bouffe” and only few months before the release of their next EP “Re:RETRO’93”, which was followed a year later by a live album “Sonique Voyeurisme”. Though there is another full-length, entitled “Kras”, planned for this year, the return of FORGOTTEN SILENCE to MGCDF shall concern something different – namely and solely the debut album “THOTS”, which was released in 1995 on MC, in 1996 on CD, and reissued in 2009. The band thus continues with its special setlist shows (for example, in 2016, FORGOTTEN SILENCE played on the second part of Suomi Weird Spring a special show dedicated to the “Kro Ni Ka” album), and on top of that, they will come in a special line-up containing three of the original four founding members. Do not miss this unique trip down the memory lane and revisit the origins of one of the most singular Czech bands!

TORTHARRY (cz)

The Czech death metal icon and co-organizer of our metal feast surely needs no elaborate introduction, if only since TORTHARRY appeared on every single installment of MGCDF and shall do so again this year. After the last MGCDF, the band kept expanding their list of live performances, appearing for instance on the Dutch Stonehenge festival, but most of their time was devoted to preparations of their next, already ninth, full-length “Sinister Species”, which was recorded in September and October 2017 and released this January by MetalGate Records. And their will be plenty of opportunities to present it live, since ahead of TORTHARRY is a packed festival season not only on the home soil, but also in Austria, Slovakia or Spain. You however should not miss their appearance on our stage, for where else to enjoy the new album live better than on the celebration of the 10th anniversary of a festival that shares a unique bond with TORTHARRY!

ANTIGOD (cz)

This Silesian marching company, established in 2011, is among the veterans of our festival. Not only did ANTIGOD played several times on our stage, but when it is not the case, you can meet them on site in the audience. The last appearance of ANTIGOD on MGCDF was in 2016 and was revolving around the second full-length “Wareligion”, which thematically covers WWI. It was released by MetalGate Records in 2015 on CD, a year later on vinyl as a joint venture with several other labels, and introduced a new reinforcement for their ranks – Chymus (Isacaarum) as the new frontman. Afterwards ANTIGOD focused mainly on live shows (appearing in local clubs, but also on Brutal Assault or in Poland), though last summer, the band released its first official music video for the song “Flesh In The Air”, which, if you watched carefully, hints at new album taking shape. Who knows, maybe we will see it come to life by MGCDF 2018. In either case, this barrage of metal artillery is not something to take cover from; quite the contrary!

ET MORIEMUR (cz)

As apparent from, for instance, the second volume of Kniha kovu, doom metal is undoubtedly one of the cornerstones of Czech metal scene. Its tradition goes back to 1990s, when especially the North Moravia saw the emergence of the first wave of Czech doom metal bands, whose melancholic albums brought this specific style of “slow” metal into a wider recognition among local fans. With the onset of the new millennium, a second nexus crystalized, this time in Western Bohemia. And of its pillars are ET MORIEMUR, established in 2008. To those who recall the previous installments of MGCDF, this will be no unknown, since we already had the pleasure of hosting this outfit back in 2012, when ET MORIEMUR came with their debut “Cupio Dissolvi”, which was released a year earlier and gained for the band the second place in the Newcomer of the year category of Břitva Awards. In 2014 came the second full-length “Ex Nihilo In Nihilum” and its qualities brought in the nomination for the Anděl Award in the Hard and Heavy genre category, as well as bronze again in Břitva Awards, this time in the Album of the year segment. The following year saw the re-edition of the first title in their discography, the “Lacrimae Rerum” EP. This year shall see another expansion of discography, for in March, the third album “Epigrammata” shall be unleashed, and so it is no enigma what the return of ET MORIEMUR to our festival will be about. And we are surely looking forward to hearing this soundtrack for the absurdity of life and triviality of man once again. You do too!

Enjoy!
