We had the pleasure of hosting this Swiss industrial/cyber metal icon, which navigates the global metal scene for 30 years already and has over 100 original songs and over 1000 live shows behind its belt, once before in 2013, when our festival celebrated 5 years since its founding. Back then, SAMAEL presented their then current album “Lux Mundi”, which was released in 2011 and in a way connected all the various aspects and nuances of their previous musical evolution, as well as of the character of the band as such. The following year was marked by the project “Sedunum”, which was composed and recorded with over 100 musician strong orchestra by Xy, one of SAMAEL’s founders, specially for the Swiss city of Sion (in fact, the project’s name itself references the ancient Roman settlement that preceded the city). In 2015, the band returned to their black metal roots, when embarking on a special world tour devoted to their 1994 classic album “Ceremony of Opposites”, which heralded an end od one era, for with its successor, the groundbreaking 1996 album “Passage”, SAMAEL entered the industrial/cyber metal waters. These they sail also on their brand-new album “Hegemony” that was released this October and shall be the centerpiece of their return, symbolically five years later, to MGCDF. Get ready!
