Dear friends, we are announcing more confirmed bands! Again we are staying on the local scene, though this batch of new names is rather polarized genre-wise. On one hand there is post-rock, ambient and shoegaze, that is, something for all who enjoy atmospheric music, on the other hand stands death metal in its variations.
So, get ready for:
DYING PASSION (cz)
Since the dramaturgy of our/your Czech metal feast traditionally diverse, even on the 10th anniversary installment we shall once again venture into slower, atmospheric and melancholic soundscapes, and in doing so simultaneously add another iconic name of the Czech scene, in a festival premier no less, DYING PASSION, which can be, without any overstatement, considered one of the main veterans of Czech metal. This quartet first surfaced to attention in 1999 with their demo “No Time”, and since then played hundreds of live shows and released eight full-lengths, with the so far last one “Black Threads” being released last year and gaining very favorable critiques. Throughout their existence, DYING PASSION also underwent a very interesting musical evolution, starting in doom metal waters and gradually (that is, from the 2002 album “Voyage” onwards) crystalizing to the current post, melancholic even, rock/metal ambience-generating form, the dominant of which is the vocals of DP’s frontwoman Zuzana Jelínková. This “visage” is then presented with utmost sound precision on albums and with utter surety on live shows. MGCDF 2018 shall thus offer something even for all melancholic souls!
ELBE (cz)
As we mentioned Dying Passion, we have a follow-up right away, for the bill of MGCDF 2018 also shall also include ELBE, which is a brand new, this summer established, joint project of Standa Jelínek of Dying Passion and Martin “Spacosh” Peřina of Between The Planets that reflects their mutual love for post-rock, ambient, psychedelia – all in all, for emotions and moods in music of all kinds. ELBE derives its name from now defunct village called Elba, which was once located in the Jeseníky Mountains near the town of Jindřichov, and by no accident, for conceptually, this project pays homage precisely to this region, its eldritch atmosphere and stirred history. This project has all its important milestones still ahead of itself, however the release of its debut album “Sudety” is planned already for January 2018, after which ELBE will depart for their first tour Svlékni tmu alongside the home bands of both its founders, and which they will of course present on MGCDF. So, do not miss this opportunity this newest addition to the Czech scene live!
DILIGENCE (cz)
If you recall, this year’s MGCDf had the pleasure of hosting the Czech sludge project The Corona Lantern, which closely affiliated with another Czech act DILIGENCE, and since this proverbial other side of the same coin has not yet performed on our festival, it is time to fix that. This modern death metal squad, fronted, same as TCL, by Daniela “Dahlien” Neumanová with her singular vocals, is active on the Czech scene since 2013. So far, the band released one EP and several singles and double-singles, the last of which “Endlessly Restless” appeared last May. A debut album is however taking shape and its release is planned for 2018. Let’s keep our fingers crossed then for a successful completion of this endeavor, so that it can presented live on MGCDF 2018!
BLOODY OBSESSION (cz)
This death metal warmachine was established in 2007 and caught wider attention a year later with their demo “Fall Down Into The Apocalypse”. In 2011, the band released their debut full-length “News From the Morgue”, the release of which was however followed by the split of the original band line-up. A new one got together a year later, and its first joint endeavor was the second album “Steel Messengers of War”. Its successor is currently in the works, scheduled to be released this December under Pařát Magazine, and no doubt this piece shall be at the core of BLOODY OBSESSION’s performance on MGCDF 2018. Attendance mandatory for all old school death metal maniacs!
SPREADING DREAD (cz)
Prague-based progressive thrash/death metal act, comprised, in their own words, from people with synergic psychological disorders that form a complex musical body. In fact, the band’s history began in 2006 with the stay of the founder, guitarist Šimon Kotrč, in a rehab, where he composed the outlines of first songs. These then evolved into the 2012 debut album, aptly entitled “Sanatorium”. Around the same time, SPREADING DREAD took part in the fourth installment of our contest MetalGate Massacre, scoring the overall silver, and year later appeared on the fifth MGCDF. Also worth mentioning is the breath of the band’s inspiration that covers not only the old-school and modern metal, but also classical music, especially the baroque one. Their return to MGCDF shall be primarily in the vein of their current second full-length “Age of Aquarius”, which was released last year. Get ready!
